Along with the warming that came at the beginning of March, we started work at the nest to prepare well for the next season.
One of the changes is the reconstruction of the camera arm, so that it is more stable, better protected against corrosion, and enables remote setting of the tilt angle. The arm was thoroughly cleaned of old paint, and after the modifications were carried out, painted with primer and metal paint. Between the two arms of the mount we installed an actuator, which is controlled remotely without the need to approach the nest. This will primarily enable better observation of storks during the time when insight into the center of the nest is particularly important. The cost incurred in connection with the reconstruction of the arm is: 187.90 PLN – actuator, 12.00 PLN – steel profile, 11.94 PLN – bolts and nuts. The remaining parts, i.e., power supply, control board, and power cable, come from own resources. Thank you all for the support shown.
Another change was thorough cleaning of the nest from trash that storks brought throughout the previous year. We also removed rotten building material, such as hay and mud, and thoroughly cleared the nest by making holes in the base. Then straw was laid in the nest, which will be better and safer for the storks living in it.
It remained for us to wait for our storks, who according to data from previous years always arrived between March 23rd and April 13th.
