On July 1st, after a violent storm in Szczekarków, an unfortunate accident occurred when two young storks fell from a nest on a power pole. Residents immediately called the fire department and also asked me for advice and help with transporting the birds to a specialized facility.

After a brief examination, the birds were secured and transported to the rehabilitation center „Szansa dla Bociana” in Kozubszczyzna, run by Kamil Piwowarczyk. It turned out that one of the birds emerged from the fall unharmed. Unfortunately, the second one was diagnosed with a severe, open leg fracture. The injured stork was placed under the care of a veterinarian who, due to the nature of the injuries, made the difficult decision to euthanize it. Such injuries are extremely difficult to treat in this species and most often condemn the bird to permanent disability.

The second young stork is doing well. In the coming days, it will be ringed, and at the center, it will get a chance for natural flight training. It will observe other young birds there and train its skills with them before its departure. If all goes according to plan, it will set off for its wintering grounds with the rest of the flock at the end of summer.
